thrive in menopause Jul 06, 2021

Have you ever walked out of the house and felt blah at some point during your day?

Have you ever felt forgetful or almost spacey and know it's not typically your nature?

When you past 40 and hitting that 50 and beyond mark, your body can start going through changes that are a new experience for you.

They may be pleasant or not so pleasant. Well guess what darling? Your body is speaking to you and it's trying to tell you something important.

In fact, it speaks to you on a daily basis? No, not in some foreign unknown language.

But in a way if that if you know the signs and symptoms you can automatically get the sense of what you may need.

So today, I want to talk about the "M" word.

You guessed it right...Menopause.

There are so many belief about what to do, what to take or how you will feel. So I want to make sure you aren’t being oblivious to what your body may be telling you... because there’s one specific change you can make right now to start fixing, however you feel.

That’s why I recorded this video “Look Good and Feel Good in Menopause" for busy women like you, whose life has went through transitions. CLICK HERE TO WATCH

I have talked about the M word in the past and feel that we hear so much conflicting information that if we can just allow our body to be, that things will be okay. But it doesn't always work like that when we hit menopause.

If you are a woman over 40 then you can relate this conversation.

When I was a young girl the ONE thing that I was prepared for was getting my period.

I knew...

  • What to do
  • What to expect
  • In case of emergency
  • How to reduce your bloat/cramps
  • Or when to call-off from the cramps

But when I became a woman I was not prepared for the night sweats, anxiety attacks, the bloating that confused me on many occasions.

I must say, my poor husband has endured many days of getting on my nerves just for being kind. My hormones makes me feel annoyed when he is doing something nice for me. I just get extremely irritated.

So, when I notice the stress levels start to rise, my typical response is..."thank you" because it just wouldn't be right to respond any other way while he is showing displays of love and kindness to me.

And by saying thank you, it is a reminder to me that a kind act deserves appreciation regardless of how I feel.

The turmoil that I am going through on the inside is not a targeted at anyone, it's my hormones trying to find balance.

So, I try my best to keep my uncontrollable hormones inside and get control of them before they control me.

At this stage, we are in our prime of life, with rich experiences, knowledge and many of us are in thriving careers or businesses so we have to bring it regardless of how we feel.

But you weren't prepared for this either…the weight gain and all the stuff that comes along with it. In this video I am sharing my tips on what to eat during menopause to lose weight and not gain any weight.

So how can you lose weight during menopause without dieting? What do you eat that typically help you with weight loss?

I’m Milan of Sonaturelle Wellness and the Chic Women Don't Diet culinary and lifestyle coaching program.

Where I coach women in over 40 who have experienced stressful transitions in life to improve their emotional wellbeing around food, uncover and remove the obstacles that cause weight gain so that they can look good and feel good in their skin again.

I want to be honest with you here because when we hit the menopausal years and we gain weight it’s not always caused by hormonal changes.

There are other factors to consider related to aging, lifestyle, and genetics.

Remember growing up in the generation of “Go Outside and Play" era?

  • Skateboarding
  • Skating
  • Biking
  • Jumping rope
  • Run, chase
  • Hopscotch
  • Basketball with our brothers

I have never been the sporty type but for fun every now and then I stopped being a girly girl.

My life has always been "girly girl".

And I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Think about it for a moment, all of that muscle tone you built up over the years became fat as a result of your sedentary, no movement, less movement lifestyle.

I want to be honest with you here because when you enter the menopausal years and gain weight it’s not always caused by hormonal changes.

Fat weights more than muscles does and so it occupies more space in your clothes.

Which is why you may think your diet has not changed but your body has changed as a result of your lifestyle change not necessarily what you have or have not been eating. This lifestyle is aging, genetics, and type of movement as well as gravity.

So if you want to know what to eat during menopause to lose weight I am giving you the a breakdown in details right now.

1. Eat plenty of protein for weight loss

Protein is—digested different in the body than carbs do and it helps unlike carbs to build up muscles that we started to lose somewhere in our 30's.

Protein will help you to feel satisfied for longer periods so you won't be tempted to snack between your meals.

What I recommend eating to lose weight during menopause is animal and non –animal sources of protein.

Which includes beans, nuts, seeds, and avocados.

You can roast animal protein, any nuts and or seeds.

What I enjoy doing to minimize extra fat on animal sources of protein during cooking is to bake them, braised them, or sear them.

These tend to be the most healthiest methods of cooking to lose weigh during menopause.

In my Chic Cooking Academy I teach my women over 40 students how to cook in a way that helps them lose weight without dieting during the menopause years.

2. Take delight in vibrant colorful vegetables

Vibrant Colorful Foods—such as your vegetables of Braised Bright Purple Cabbage, and Eggplants.

Fragrant Root Vegetables of Fennel and Celery root Whole Grains unless you are Gluten Free

These foods balance your hormones' effect on your body by reducing mood shifts that makes you snack often or overeat on them.

You know how we enjoy food so it's only natural.

But eating in a taught natural way has it's consequences.

3. Vitamin E helps with weight loss in menopause

You are not going to be eating Vitamin E however, Vitamin E by way of cooking oils is the direction we want to go in.

What I have found to be the best oils are Hazelnuts, Sunflower, and Grapeseed.

Don't go out and buy them just because I said so. This is the problem now, we jump on everything without understanding why.

I want you to learn how to use these oils to get the most benefit from them.

If you use them in the wrong way, that will not be good for you body nor health.

The beauty of these oils is help they help to regulate estrogen levels so it reduces depression and stress eating which contributes to weight gain in menopause.
